Get Toxic Pesticides Out of Northwest Waters!
Stop the Bush Administration from Weakening Endangered Species Act Protections!

Now that conservation and fishing groups have won no-spray zones near salmon streams for 38 pesticides, the Bush administration is proposing new regulations under the Endangered Species Act that will weaken rules governing the use of pesticides. These new rules may push salmon and other species such as the red-legged frog and bald eagle further toward extinction.

The proposed rules will weaken protections for endangered species by: shutting fish and wildlife experts out of decision-making; allowing outdated science to be used; and giving the chemical industry special participation rights that are not shared by the public.

What you can do:
Ask the Bush administration to strengthen, not weaken, rules protecting endangered species from pesticides.

Send a message to the administration's leaders and tell them to reject industry's attempt to weaken protections for fish and wildlife. Visit the Washington Toxics Coalition website at www.watoxics.org to send a quick and easy e-mail to decision makers and for background information on this important issue. The deadline for comments is March 30, 2004, so please act today! (reposted from Washington Toxics Coalition)

Petition Wal-Mart to Help Save Whales in Japan
Greenpeace, the Humane Society of the U.S., and other animal and environmental welfare groups have launched a campaign aimed at reducing the market for cetacean (whale, dolphin and porpoise) products in Japan. If Japanese supermarkets refuse to sell cetacean products, the incentive to hunt will be greatly reduced and thousands of whales, dolphins and porpoises can be saved. Wal-Mart owns substantial shares of the Japanese supermarket chains that are selling whale, dolphin and porpoise meat.

What you can do:
Please help persuade Wal-Mart to stop the sale of whale meat in its subsidiary stores by signing this petition:
