The circus is coming to town - help make it the last time!
Join PAWS and PETA in telling Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey that you don't support animal cruelty! The so-called "Best Show on Earth" that regularly mistreats animals merely for entertainment is coming to the Everett Event Center September 14-18. Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus has one of the most extensive histories of animal abuse and neglect. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has cited Ringling over one hundred times for repeatedly violating minimum standards of the Animal Welfare Act, including failure to have four elephants tested for tuberculosis, as well as failure to provide veterinary care, sufficient space, adequate exercise, proper feeding, and sanitation. This circus is condemned by animal welfare organizations throughout the United States and abroad. Ringling has chosen the smaller community of Everett to display their cruelty, as they could no longer fill stadiums in Tacoma or Seattle. The citizens of these cities have shown their disgust by not attending - here's what you can do:

1) Take action on behalf of circus animals - put your body on the line!
There will be nine performances at the Everett Events Center. Your presence is needed at each and every show to hold signs and to distribute leaflets to circus-goers. Remember, the few hours we'll spend protesting during Ringling's time in Everett is nothing compared to the misery the animals endure on a daily basis. Meet at the main entrance to the Everett Events Center at the corner of Hewitt Avenue and Oakes Avenue in Everett at the following times:
Wednesday, Sept. 14 - meet at 6:00 pm
Thursday, Sept. 15 - meet 6:00 pm
Friday, Sept. 16 - meet at 9:00 am and 6:00 pm
Saturday, Sept. 17 - meet at 10:00 am, 2:00 pm, and 6:00 pm
Sunday, Sept. 18 - meet at 11:30 am and 3:30 pm

Dedicated PAWS volunteer Tava Bess will be there at every show, with a supply of handouts explaining why circuses are cruel and suggesting other animal-free circuses people can attend.

2) Contact circus sponsors and promoters
Visit the Everett Event Center's website for a listing of their Preferred Partners. Write them firm but courteous letters letting them know that by endorsing the Everett Event Center (EEC), they are also indirectly sponsoring an event that is regularly cited for abusing animals. Urge the centers' partners to contact the EEC and express their disapproval. EEC's Preferred Partners are listed at: www.everetteventscenter.com/GeneralInformation/PreferredPartners.ashx?p=62

Then, write the Center directly and share your disappointment that they are hosting such an outdated and cruel form of entertainment and that you will only patronize circuses that do not use animals, such as the spectacular Cirque du Soleil.

Help Ban Ape Research in Seattle
Today is International Primate Day, Ban Ape Research (BAR) is launching a campaign to convince the Seattle City Council to enact a city-wide ban on medical research using nonhuman great apes (chimpanzees, bonobos, orangutans, and gorillas). Several countries (including the UK, Netherlands, Sweden, New Zealand, and Japan) have already put such prohibitions in place, and we believe Seattle should be the first US jurisdiction to take this progressive step.

To sign the online petition please visit: http://gopetition.com/online/6954.html

For more information on this ban please visit, www.BanApeResearch.org.

For the animals - thank you!
