A Northwest leader in protecting animals since 1967, the Progressive Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) shelters homeless animals, rehabilitates injured and orphaned wildlife, and empowers people to demonstrate compassion and respect for animals in their daily lives.
Benefits

PAWSwalk Outreach Assistant
Accountable to: Events Coordinator
Type of Position: Part-time Temporary. Open as early as July 14, 2008 the assignment will run as late as September 12, 2008, 19 hours per week.
Salary: This position is open to college students eligible for Washington State Work Study at $10-$11/hour, or it is also open as an uncompensated internship for other interested candidates.

This position assists PAWS staff in preparing and executing a successful PAWSwalk fundraising event taking place on Saturday, September 6, 2008. This position has a special focus on the planning and implementation of team and individual walker recruitment, as well as representing PAWS at community events leading up to PAWSwalk. The successful candidate will also provide general assistance with public inquiries, gift processing and donor acknowledgement.
- With assistance of staff, create and implement a recruitment plan for new teams and individual walkers. This may include e-mail, phone and in-person communications, as well as the distribution of posters and brochures to area businesses.
- Attend weekend and evening outreach events as the official representative of PAWS and PAWSwalk.
- Act as primary contact for team captains on the day of PAWSwalk.
- Assist with walker registration, data entry and reporting.
- May perform other duties related to community outreach, planning and implementation for PAWSwalk.

While it will be especially helpful to those looking to work in the non-profit sector, the communication, coordination, and day-of-event management skills will be invaluable to anyone who plans to have a leadership role in any sector. - Excellent written and verbal communication skills and an ability to represent PAWS’ mission in a creative and energetic manner.
- Comfort with asking individuals and businesses for support for events, as well as for volunteer time and commitment.
- An outgoing personality and ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Proficiency with use of email and Web applications.
- Experience with word processing, spreadsheets and database use.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and have a tactful, mature and sincere attitude.
- Access to an insured vehicle and possession of a valid Washington State driver’s license for transportation to events and for distributing materials around the area.
- Ability to lift 30 pounds.
- Important considerations for this position include a sincere interest and belief in the philosophy of animal welfare and a creative and dynamic approach to the project.

Board of Directors
The Progressive Animal Welfare Society (PAWS), a Northwest leader in animal welfare since 1967, is seeking candidates for its board of directors. PAWS is a non-profit organization that shelters homeless animals, rehabilitates injured and orphaned wildlife, and through progressive outreach and education programs, helps people understand the intrinsic value of animal life. Experience in fundraising, finance, marketing, legal affairs, architecture & facilities planning are especially valued at this time, however, all interested parties concerned about animal welfare are encouraged to respond. Ours is an active board; board meetings are held monthly, late afternoon, near downtown Seattle. This is an unpaid position.
