PAWS "Grandparents' Day" Celebration Unites Seniors with Seniors!

For "Tesh", a creamy white medium-sized dog with big brown eyes, Grandparents' Day was the start of a new life, thanks to the PAWS "Seniors for Seniors" adoption program. Like hundreds of other adult animals, "Tesh" was patiently waiting in the PAWS kennels for just the right family to come along. She just needed someone to look past her senior age to discover her sweet disposition, good manners and unshakeable loyalty.

With a little help from the PAWS staff and volunteers, Oz and Ellie Osburn, were introduced to "Tesh", and it was love at first sight! Since that day, she has been living the life of a well-loved dog. The Osburn's report that she has fit right into their family, and enjoys her walks and car rides every week.

"Grandparents' Day" helped connect several other senior animals, along with many adult cats and dogs to new, loving homes. "This was the first time we celebrated "Grandparents' Day" with a special adoption promotion," explains Programs Manager Kay Joubert, "and it was a great success for the Osborn's and other families who adopted senior animals that day."

The event was celebrated on September 9th with a special promotion that featured the well-loved "Seniors for Seniors" adoption program. The innovative "Seniors for Seniors" program places senior cats and dogs, typically over 7 years of age, with qualified seniors who are 60 years or older. Seniors and Grandparents alike were encouraged to rediscover the joys of having a "best friend" by visiting the PAWS shelter on "Grandparents' Day" to meet some of the wonderful adult animals available for adoption.

The event featured special adoption rates, special gifts for seniors who adopted, and information about the "Seniors for Seniors" adoption program. For more details on this life-saving and match-making program please call 425.787.2500 x488.
