In memory of Arky - December 1, 2003

Dear Arky,

You're not with us anymore. We've lost you, after only six years, our loving family member who meant so much to us. Now it feels empty here without you. It was all so sudden. All fingers pointed to liver disease. Did I do it too soon? Did I have the right to end your life? Was the Vet competent? Did I act in haste? No. You were suffering. I saw it in your eyes. You couldn't walk, you lost all that weight, you were dizzy and weak, you kept drinking and drinking...and then you would vomit. You had bloody diarrhea just this morning. You were gaunt and whimpering last night.

But it was not so long ago that you were the most adorable and loving Samoyed. Everyone, and I mean everyone, would stop by to tell you how pretty you were, so much so that you came to expect it! You were always so happy, inquisitive, and caring. You sang along with opera, too! Yes, you were a bit spoiled: you got to run on the beach, climb up mountain slopes, ride along on the Alaska Highway, you ran free on the farm, and strode up sleek, urban streets. You ate anything you wanted, slept on all the furniture, and went everywhere with us. And now you're gone. Please forgive me Arky. I hope you understand I didn't want you to suffer anymore. I don't know what happens now but I hope your spirit lives on... Thanks for what you were and all that you meant to us. It won't be the same without you here. A part of us died along with you.

If there is a doggie heaven please run free and enjoy the splendor with all the others who have sojourned to that place and know that we hope to see you again.

Love,
R&B
