PAWS

In memory of Geek - March 2005

Dear Sirs:

We regret to inform you of the death of our cat Geek, who we adopted at PAWS in February 1989. He was 16. I am enclosing the tag we received. He was originally our daughter's cat, but she left home in 1991 and he remained with us after that.

We moved several times during the years he was with us, including the move to Idaho, and he made the transition each time without protest. We took him to the new place with the last load, so we would be there with him. He seemed to understand this was his new territory, and he settled in nicely.

Geek was a great cat. He was a lover, a communicator, and a hunter. His preferred place to rest was a lap, but if no lap was available, he curled up in a chair by the wood stove. In the wintertime, he would crawl under the covers with us in bed, and felt free to put all four cold paws against a warm back. When his feet were toasty, he would crawl up and put his head on the pillow.

Geek had a whole vocabulary of meows, and was able to make himself understood very well. We were rarely puzzled about what he wanted. Being half Siamese, he was vocal, and understood much of what we said to him. He never lost his dignity and never came running to "Here Kitty" or "Here Geek." But if you phrased it as a question, "Geek, where are you?" he would show himself.

He kept a hidey hole everywhere we lived just in case kids showed up. If visitors looked like they weren't old enough to vote, he quietly disappeared until they went home.

We've lived in the country, and Geek controlled the vermin very efficiently. If he found a game trail, he would patiently sit for however long it took for prey to come by. As he got older, he felt less and less need to show off his skills.

We miss him. Thank you for your part in the good years we had with him.

Sincerely,
Dorothy Clark
