In memory of Jack - July 9, 2007

Dear PAWS Team,

After 13+ years with my beloved, and oh so neurotic dog Jack, on July 9, 2007, I had to put him to sleep. That was a very sad day for me.

I adopted Jack on May 23, 1994, after seeing him on a PAWS poster at the U of W Street Fair. He was 2-3 years old at the time. He had been abandoned and was running wild with 5 other dogs when he was rescued from the streets. Four of the six dogs had to be put to sleep, as they weren't "adoptable." Jack was scared and skinny, but adorable, so I took him home with me.

Jack was a scrappy little terrier that quickly bonded with his new "mom." He never really liked other dogs, as he would chase after dogs 4x his size! He didn't care that they could probably eat him in one bite! He just didn't like them – he only had eyes for his "mom!" Over the years he mellowed out, but never lost his sense of abandonment, following me around the house from room to room. He hated being alone, so I took him whenever I could. He was a wonderful friend and part of the family! I miss him terribly.

The first three years after I adopted Jack, he and I walked in the annual PAWSwalk, collecting donations so he could repay his "debt" to the wonderful people at PAWS that saved his life and put the two of us together. Since we won't be able to walk this year, I have enclosed a check in Jack's memory. I hope the PAWSwalk is a huge success this year.

Sincerely,

Leslee

P.S. I've included a picture that reflects just how cute he was when he was feeling lively and scrappy.
