In memory of Remy - April 16, 2006

When I lost Abbey I was so forlorn that my husband said I could go look for another so PAWS was the first place I went. This was the middle of Sept. 1994. I looked and interacted with several of the dogs there at the time but was hooked on “Stripes.” I brought my husband the next day to meet her himself. Both he and the staff tried to talk me out of adopting her because she was so head strong but I would not relent. Puppydom is always a trying time and we had a lot of chewed household items. As time went by she became an intelligent and loving animal. We moved our household in 1996 from Seattle and moved into an RV to find a place in the sun. Remy and Max (an African Grey parrot) went with us, of course. Watching your pet decline with age is always painful and I am still fighting back tears as I write this. I will probably continue to wish for reincarnation even though I know better. There will never be another Remy. We then lost our other dog, Forrest, a month later due to cancer. We were lost and it was Memorial Day weekend. Tuesday we went to our local animal shelter (Verde Valley Animal Shelter) and found KoKo. She looks like a Australian Shep mix with Remy’s stripes and a white bib (when she isn’t rolling in dirt). Thank you again for Remy, she enriched our lives for many years. Keep up the good work.
