Cat Room Attendant
Position Description: Cat Room Attendants assist the public with any questions regarding adoptions and monitor pre-adoption visits. In addition, Cat Room Attendants work to ensure the cleanliness of each cat cage in the adoption room while socializing the cats and kittens. Cleaning involves sifting through soiled litter pans, changing bedding, and doing laundry and dishes. This job may require repetitious bending and lifting, and volunteers are exposed to various cleaning agents. This position has high animal contact.
Volunteers must have customer service skills and be able to professionally represent PAWS and our policies when interacting with the public.
Duties include: socializing and comforting the cats; monitoring behavior and medical needs on daily log; maintaining cleanliness of each cat cage in the cat adoption room; preparing and feeding cats and kittens appropriate food; stocking \"cat cart\" with supplies; assisting with dishes and laundry; scrubbing litter pans; sweeping and mopping; providing fresh water; and passing out toys.
Some Cat Room Attendants are trained to interact with the cats in our isolation building, where they are recovering from treatable illnesses such as upper respiratory infections. These isolation volunteers work the same shifts as those in the main cat room.
Dates Available: year round
Shifts: Mid-Afternoon shifts –
Monday-Friday 12-3 pm, and 1-4 pm.
Saturday-Sunday 11 am-2 pm.
Evening shifts –
Monday-Wednesday 4-6:30 pm.
Thursday-Friday 4-7 pm.
Saturday-Sunday 2 pm-5 pm.
Volunteers are scheduled for the same shift each week. There is a minimum 3-month commitment.
Time Commitment: Weekly 3 hour shift; 3 months minimum commitment
Location: PAWS Companion Animal Shelter, Lynnwood
Training Required: All volunteers must attend a four hour volunteer orientation before starting their position. The orientation covers each of the volunteer positions at the PAWS Companion Animal Shelter in detail, and explains the overall objectives of PAWS as an organization. This orientation is held two times per month at the shelter in Lynnwood. PAWS trains all volunteers, no previous experience is necessary. Training sessions are 1-2 hours, set up at time of orientation. Additional training is offered, but not mandatory.
