Volunteering Opportunities at PAWS
Front Lobby Assistant
Position Description: Front Lobby Assistants perform a variety of tasks at PAWS. They answer questions from the public and refer them to educational handouts available at the front desk, as well as assist staff as necessary with a variety of projects. They may assist with the receiving of stray, injured and surrendered animals, review applications, escort potential adopters into the cat room and kennels when necessary, assist the public with lost and found reports, process adoptions, and maintain the appearance of the front lobby. They counsel potential adopters, helping them to overcome societal myths about pets through persuasive, gentle education. Volunteers must have excellent customer service skills, be able to multi-task and have the ability to work with our animal tracking software after being trained. This position has high public contact and limited animal contact. Duties include but are not limited to: answering questions from the public; organizing paperwork for each animal; assisting public with adoption procedures; processing adoptions; assisting with retail sales; renting humane animal traps; ensuring the organization of the front counter and lobby; assisting with dishes and scrubbing litter pans as needed; and assisting with laundry as necessary.
Dates Available: year round
Shifts: Mid-Afternoon shifts –
Monday-Friday, 12-3 pm and 1-4 pm; Saturday-Sunday, 11 am-2 pm
Evening shifts –
Monday-Wednesday- 4-6:30 pm; Thursday-Friday- 4-7 pm; Saturday-Sunday- 2-5 pm
Volunteers are scheduled for the same shift each week. There is a minimum 3-month commitment.
Time Commitment: Weekly 3 hour shift; 3 months minimum commitment
Location: PAWS Companion Animal Shelter, Lynnwood
Training Required: All volunteers must attend a four hour volunteer orientation before starting their position. The orientation covers each of the volunteer positions at the PAWS Companion Animal Shelter in detail, and explains the overall objectives of PAWS as an organization. This orientation is held two times per month at the shelter in Lynnwood. In addition, all Front Lobby Assistants are trained in PAWS Adoption Procedures in a training that is scheduled at the orientation. PAWS trains all volunteers, no previous experience is necessary. Training sessions are 2 hours, set up at time of orientation. Additional training is offered, but not mandatory.
