Cat City Assistant
Position Description: Cat City is an adoption-only cat colony located in Greenwood in Seattle. Volunteers there assist staff with nearly every aspect of the work, such as cleaning, animal care and providing customer service. This includes answering questions, reviewing applications, escorting the public into the cat colony when necessary, and providing educational materials. They maintain the overall cleanliness of the cat colonies, while socializing and playing with the cats. This position has high public contact and some animal contact.
All Cat City volunteers must be able to professionally represent PAWS and our policies as they work with the public, have some computer skills and excellent customer service skills. These volunteers should be outgoing, personable, knowledgeable (or easily trained), self directed, be comfortable with public speaking, committed to safety and willing to take initiative.
Duties: assisting the public with adoption procedures; processing adoptions; assisting with retail sales; socializing and comforting the animals; maintaining cleanliness of cat colonies; scooping litter boxes; feeding and watering the cats and kittens; ensuring the organization of the front counter and lobby area; and assisting with laundry and dishes.
Dates Available: year round
Shifts: Tuesday-Friday- 11 am-2 pm, 1-4 pm and 4-7 p.m.
Saturday-Sunday- 10 am-12 pm, 12-3 pm and 3-6 pm.
Volunteers are scheduled for the same shift each week. There is a minimum 3-month commitment. This position has limited availability.
Time Commitment: Weekly 3 hour shift; 3 months minimum commitment
Location: Cat City Adoption Center, Greenwood ,Seattle
Training Required: All volunteers must attend a four hour volunteer orientation before starting their position. The orientation covers each of the volunteer positions at the PAWS Companion Animal Shelter in detail, and explains the overall objectives of PAWS as an organization. This orientation is held two times a month at the shelter in Lynnwood. Cat City Volunteers are required to attend a PAWS adoptions procedures training, the schedule for which will be provided at the orientation. PAWS trains all volunteers, no previous experience is necessary. Training sessions are 1-2 hours, set up at time of orientation. Additional training is offered, but not mandatory.
