Volunteering Opportunities at PAWS

Kennel Cleaning Assistant

Position Description: PAWS has the ability to house up to 45 dogs, and the mornings are usually busy and fast paced. Kennel Cleaning Assistants assist with the cleaning of each dog kennel in the main adoption kennels, while teaching the basic commands of PAWS Good Dog Program. This program teaches the dogs basic obedience commands with the goal of a more stimulating shelter stay, and an easier transition into their new home. Volunteers must practice safe animal handling per PAWS protocols and be open to feedback from staff. This position requires a tolerance for loud noises, and volunteers are exposed to various cleaning agents. Volunteers must be comfortable using hoses and scrubbing brushes. This is a high animal contact position. This job can be intense and physically demanding, and requires repetitious scrubbing, bending, and lifting. Duties include: socializing and comforting the dogs; practicing and participating in the PAWS Good Dog Program; monitoring behavior and medical needs on daily log; sanitizing each kennel in the main adoption kennels; scooping feces; washing down kennels with hose; scrubbing each kennel with detergent; bleaching, rinsing and squeegee-ing kennels; assisting with dishes and laundry; and sweeping and mopping.
