As development encroaches on wildlife habitat, PAWS’ nationally recognized wildlife rehabilitation center rehabilitates sick, injured, and orphaned animals and educates people about peaceful co-existence with wildlife.

Wildlife Admissions Interns assist and support the Wildlife Admissions Specialists in the daily operations of the intake and reception area. Interns gain valuable, practical experience in animal intake, species identification, and wildlife/human conflict resolution. This position may involve some handling of animals but is primarily administrative.

Job Duties

  • Admit animals
  • Answer a high volume of telephone calls and respond to voicemail
  • Provide excellent customer service to members of the public, often in sensitive situations
  • Advise members of the public regarding wildlife situations
  • Administrative duties including filing, photocopying, and data entry
  • Clean and maintain the lobby and exam room
  • Other tasks as required

Qualifications

Applicants must be current college students, recent graduates, or career changers, and possess a strong interest in non-profit administration and wildlife rehabilitation. The ideal applicant is a highly motivated, detail-oriented self-starter with excellent written and verbal communication skills and proficiency in MS Office. Applicants must:

  • Be able to read, write and speak English fluently
  • Work independently and as a part of a team, and show a high level of patience and compassion when interacting with the public
  • Be able to become proficient with the wildlife center’s database and computer systems used in operations
  • Complete detailed projects with little supervision
  • Be organized, efficient, and flexible, and able to balance concurrent projects and adjust to rapid, changing needs
  • Be able to represent PAWS professionally at all times

Internship Terms

  • Internships may take place year-round, but highest priority is between April 1—September 30
  • Successful candidates must commit to a minimum of 12 consecutive weeks
  • Interns work 15-40 hours per week
  • Interns are unpaid
  • Housing and transportation assistance are not provided

Application Deadlines

We accept applications on a rolling basis, however, we do have application deadlines depending on the season. Seasonal internship opportunities and application deadlines are listed below:

  • Spring Internships: March-May/June (apply by December 31st of previous year)
  • Summer Internships (Early): May-July/August (apply by March 31st)
  • Summer Internships (Late): June-August/September (apply by March 31st)
  • Fall Internships: August-October (apply by June 30th)

We will begin reviewing applications after these listed deadlines. However, we may consider applications on a rolling basis following the deadlines should space still be available.

The Decision Process
