Layson Albatross
November 15, 2019
The patient of the week is a rare patient, a Laysan Albatross. This subadult male was found not flying on the deck of a freighter ship before it was taken to PAWS. On his intake exam, it was noted that the end of his upper bill was fractured and he was favoring his left leg. Our vet team placed bone cement to stabilize the bill fracture. Since intake, our rehabilitators have been providing nutritional support and striving to improve the bird’s water proofing. These epic flyers tend to spend most of their time soaring over the northern Pacific Ocean.
