Red-Tailed Hawk
January 29, 2020
This Red-tailed Hawk was spotted for several weeks on a farm in Tacoma. She could not fly but evaded capture until recently. During her initial exam, our rehabilitation team discovered she had an older fracture of her right femur, scattered wounds, and a very high parasite load. Once our team took x-rays, we found that she had been shot four times, possibly the cause of the femur fracture. Several of the pellets have been removed and for now we will focus on providing ongoing stabilization. The case has been reported to Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife.
