Western Spotted Skunk
March 10, 2020
If you’ve been near our Wildlife Center over the past week you’ve probably smelled one of our newest patients, a Western spotted skunk! Originally found stumbling and rolling in a yard, he was brought to PAWS with help of Footprints Wildlife Rehabilitation Center. During his initial exam, we treated him for suspected head trauma and administered IV fluids. Over the last week, he has improved significantly and is now eating on his own. We recently moved him to an outdoor cage where we hope he can continue to improve.
Interestingly, spotted skunks are said to have a much more pungent odor than their much larger striped skunk relatives, and right now we would believe that!
