Mallard Ducklings

Last week we received our first two infant Mallards (less than a week old) of the spring season! This pair was found wandering through a park alone. Though their finders attempted to reunite them with their mom, the ducklings were left behind again. Both arrived uninjured and are eating well. While these two are very young, they are examples of a “precocial” species. Precocial animals are mobile and somewhat self-sufficient shortly after their birth or hatching.
