Muskrat

April 7, 2020

This muskrat presented to the PAWS Wildlife Center after sustaining what we believe was a significant crushing injury to the end of his tail. In spite of aggressive medical management over the first week of care, the damaged tissue could not be saved. Fortunately, we were able to surgically remove the damaged part of the tail and still leave enough to allow for normal use in the water. Muskrats use their tails as rudders while swimming. The muskrat is recovering well, and we hope to have him back in his wild home soon!
