Orphaned Baby Harbor Seal
August 5, 2020
This 3-day-old seal pup arrived at PAWS over the weekend. Members of Seal Sitters observed her for 24 hours and determined that her mother was no longer returning for care. The services of Seal Sitters and other members of the Marine Mammal Stranding Network are invaluable to the wellbeing of our wild shoreline neighbors. They ensure that harbor seals and other marine mammals are safe when resting on our beaches and determine when they need help. If you see a seal that you perceive is injured or orphaned, please do not intervene. Instead, contact your local stranding network group. They have the training and the resources to ensure only the seals in need find help. Find your local stranding network contact on this map or call NOAA West Coast Hotline 1-866-767-6114. This patient is already doing better and is steadily gaining weight!
