Wild Animals in Need
Welcome to the last blog post on the PAWS Academy’s Wildlife Series! Thank you all for learning how to be a champion for your wild neighbors! In this final video you will learn about what to do if you find an injured, orphaned or sick wild animal.
Find a Wild Animal? What next?
If you suspect that a wild animal in your neighborhood needs help you should follow these three important steps:
- Do not touch the animal. Wild animals are usually afraid of humans and will try to defend themselves if you get too close. While your intentions may be good, trying to touch a wild animal may lead to both parties getting injured. Wild animals may also carry diseases that are dangerous to humans. Additionally, the wild animal may not be in need of help at all as this needs to be determined by an expert, like PAWS Wildlife Veterinarian, Dr. Nicki Rosenhagen.
- Find a trusted adult that can help you call PAWS or another certified wildlife rehabilitation center nearby.
- Call 425-787-2500 x817 to get in touch with the PAWS Wildlife Center or find the number of another wildlife center and they will be able to talk you through the next steps!
Want to Help More?
Let others know about what to do if they see a wild animal that needs help. We challenge you to try and talk to as many people as possible! The more people who know what to do in this situation the safer wild animals and humans are.
