Northern Saw-whet Owl
October 8, 2020
Northern Saw-whet owls are currently migrating in Washington. At PAWS, migration usually means a rush of patients that have struck windows, especially in the Fall. We currently have 3 Northern Saw-whets owls in care that arrived for that very reason. This patient also somehow got his feathers contaminated with oil, presumably after the window collision. After stabilization and care for 3 days, our rehabilitators washed him yesterday. His prognosis looks good as he has moved up to a larger enclosure where he has more room to fly.
