Northern Pygmy-Owl
November 4, 2020
A Northern Pygmy-Owl fractured her coracoid bone, the bone that supports the shoulder. She also suffered extensive bruising on the left side of her body after crashing into a window. Window collisions are a common cause of injury for this species, as they are more likely to be active during the day. Windows can appear as desirable places to fly as they either reflect nearby vegetation or appear to be a clear flight path through a building. Birds will often fly into them at high speeds and suffer debilitating injuries. Luckily, the homeowner spotted this owl and brought her into care last week. She currently has a wing wrap and will hopefully make a full recover in a few weeks.
