Western Painted Turtle
November 11, 2020
This Western Painted Turtle arrived from eastern Washington last week. She had a fishing hook lodged into her esophagus and wounds around her mouth from the attached fishing line. Our veterinary team surgically removed the hook and treated her wounds. The turtle is currently recovering from the procedure. She would normally be entering brumation, the reptile version of hibernation, right now. Unfortunately, she will unlikely recover from the surgery and complete her round of medication before the cold weather hits her home. We will provide her care over the winter so she can return home safely next spring when it is warmer.
