Western Screech-Owl

April 7, 2021

This western screech-owl was found entangled in a net above a chicken coop in Bellevue. He arrived in a weakened state with his eyes closed and unresponsive to what was going on around him. He was treated for capture myopathy, a condition that can occur after an animal overexerts itself during a prolonged struggle. The body can have abnormal physiological responses that affect the muscles and can lead to death. He immediately received treatment at intake, but it took 5 days until he regained his strength and started to behave normally. He just passed his final assessment and is ready for release!
