Barn Owl
April 28, 2021
This barn owl was found very weak and barely moving on the floor of a shop in Kent. Unfortunately, the owl’s feathers got contaminated with clean motor oil during capture inside the shop. He arrived in critical condition (severely dehydrated and unresponsive) and required shock fluid therapy for initial stabilization. We suspect he is a victim of anticoagulant rodenticide poisoning and is currently receiving treatment while in care. Five days after intake, he was stable enough to wash his feathers. Our rehabilitation staff is trained specifically to respond to oil spill victims and is therefore very capable of removing contaminants from wildlife. He is much more responsive now and is making great strides towards a full recovery.
