Coyote Pup
August 11, 2021
This coyote pup was presumably struck by a vehicle. He arrived unable to stand with a deep head wound. Given the critical nature of his condition, intravenous fluids and pain medications were immediately administered to treat the head trauma. The coyote was standing within 12 hours of treatment, but radiographs revealed multiple rib fractures and an open skull fracture. The wound over the skull was carefully cleaned, and a bandage was placed to keep the area clean while the veterinary staff worked to get the infection under control. He remained dull for several days before improving rapidly and making unsteady walks around his enclosure. The skull wound healed well and his coordination has returned! Twelve days after intake, he was transferred to Sarvey Wildlife Care Center, where he can complete his rehabilitation journey with other coyote pups.
