Western Toad

September 22, 2021

Western toads breed in wetlands but can reside in a variety of habitats after breeding including forests, grasslands, prairies, and even a yard. This toad was inadvertently injured by a gardening tool while someone was working in their yard. Since toads can inhabit small burrows and spend much of their time underground, an accident like this is understandable. The toad suffered lacerations to the head, tail and back. Treatment includes soaking in a bath with a special liquid solution for amphibians and administering antibiotics.
