Rough-Legged Hawk

March 9, 2022

A wildlife biologist from SeaTac Airport’s Raptor Strike Avoidance program rescued this young rough-legged hawk last week. The bird was likely struck by a plane and arrived very thin. No orthopedic issues were detected, but unfortunately, there seems to be some soft tissue damage, and many flight feathers were broken in the collision. Rough-legged hawks are winter residents in parts of Washington and will start migrating back to their Arctic nesting grounds very soon.
