Great Horned Owlets Re-nested
July 19, 2023
The PAWS Wildlife Center has experienced an influx of Great horned owl nestlings this spring. Great horned parents often utilize abandoned nests which occasionally collapse, sending their down-covered nestlings tumbling to the ground below. Last week, a homeowner in Redmond contacted PAWS after finding three owlets on their lawn amid the remnants of a nest. The staff brought the nestlings to the center for precautionary exams and then asked Shaun Sears of Canopy Cat Rescue (@canopycatrescue) to assist with the re-nesting process. Using a wicker basket as a makeshift nest, Shaun successfully returned all three owlets to their original tree where their parents were able to find and resume caring for them!
