Bird Nursery Caretaker

Applications are closed for the 2024 season.
Duties: Bird Nursery Caretakers spend their shift hand-feeding nestling and juvenile songbirds, such as robins and chickadees. Other duties include:
- Set up and clean animal enclosures
- Prepare diets (includes live insects)
- Dishes and general cleaning
- Hand-feed nestling and juvenile songbirds
- Monitor bird health and communicating issues to staff
- Assisting with other wildlife care duties as needed
Dates Available: May 1-September 15 (end date is variable, dependent upon patient numbers); volunteers are encouraged to apply starting in January in order to begin volunteering in May.
Volunteers must sign up for a regular, weekly shift and attend these for the entirety of the season (May through August/September).
Shifts are available seven days a week at the following times:
8 a.m.-1 p.m.
1 p.m.-6 p.m.
6 p.m.-10 p.m.
- Must be able to work cooperatively with staff, volunteers, and interns.
- A superior attention to detail.
- Comfortable with quickly picking up new skills and working in an ever-changing, fast-paced environment.
- Capable of working under limited supervision, after fully trained.
- Comfortable approaching staff with questions and asking for direction when needed.
- Shows good judgment.
