Duties: Dog Kennel Attendants help care for and comfort the dogs in the kennels. Kennel attendants also provide customer service to the public and assist them by answering questions about the adoption process as well as about particular animals. They are also active in teaching the dogs basic obedience commands with the goal of making their stay at the shelter more stimulating. Training also helps the dogs make an easier transition into their new homes
Duties include: assisting the public; socializing and comforting the dogs; teaching dogs basic obedience commands; monitoring behavior and medical needs on daily log; preparing and giving dog treats; scooping poop and spot cleaning kennels; assisting with laundry and dishes; and preparing food and feeding dogs.
Qualifications: Volunteers must learn and practice safe animal handling according to PAWS guidelines at all times and demonstrate good judgment when working with the animals. The afternoon and evening shifts may also include answering general questions from the public regarding the dogs or adoption process. All CAS Volunteers are expected to always provide positive interactions with the public and support PAWS policies. This job may require repetitious bending and lifting, and volunteers are exposed to various cleaning agents. Volunteers must be able to lift 35 pounds.
