Wildlife Veterinary Assistant Volunteer

Duties:
- Cleaning and setup of our lab, radiology, and wildlife hospital rooms
—Including sweeping, mopping, and disinfecting countertops - Cleaning, and autoclaving of surgical instruments and laundry
- Assisting other wildlife care roles with their tasks
- If properly qualified, opportunities to assist in minimal animal care with veterinary team
Experienced volunteers who meet set criteria are given the opportunity to perform lab procedures, assist with procedures, learn animal handling and medical skills
Qualifications:
- Must be an LVT or vet assistant with 6+ months of experience working in a veterinary hospital
- Volunteers must sign up for a regular, weekly shift and attend these for the entirety of the baby season (through 9/30), or for at least a six-month period.
Shifts are available seven days a week at the following times:
8 a.m.-1 p.m. (available year-round)
1 p.m.-5 p.m. (available year-round)
Candidate Requirements:
- Attendance at a New Volunteer Orientation, Wildlife Info Session, and Basic Skills Training (including an online training component).
- Must be able to work cooperatively with staff, volunteers, and interns.
- A superior attention to detail.
- Comfortable with quickly picking up new skills and working in an ever-changing, fast-paced environment.
- Capable of working under limited supervision, after fully trained.
- Comfortable approaching staff with questions and asking for direction when needed.
Minimum age: 18
Direct Animal Handling: Potentially, with proper experience and training.
